Information about “LA
GRAN BECCA” (Matterhorn)
Rising
along the Cervinia Valley, at 1080 meters above the sea level
you find the small town of Antey St. Andrè, dominated by
the majestic Matterhorn. Antey St. Andrè is distant 730
kilometers from Rome and 163 from Milan. You can reach the village, by
car, taking the motor road A5 Torino-Aosta and leaving it at the
exit St. Vincent-Chatillon. Then you must take the regional road
to Cervinia and follow it for about 10 kilometers. By train you
can arrive to the railway station of St. Vincent-Chatillon and
then take the bus following the direction towards Cervinia.
Antey St. Andrè is placed
between St. Vincent and Cervinia, 10 minutes by car from St. Vincent
and 15 minutes from Cervinia.
Moreover, is distant about 20 minutes by car from Aoste, 35 minutes
from Courmayeur and 45 minutes from from Cogne.
“La Gran Becca” is
placed within the boundaries of Antey St. Andrè; it’s
a little village placed between green meadows, with the sensational
view of the Matterhorn.It was built with great care until the
minimum details, using traditional materials as local stones and
wood.
Included in the village is the
Brasserie-Restaurant La Gran Becca, where is possible to obtain
special conditions for continuative meals. It’s possible
to buy take-away dishes as well (phone 0166/549126).
In the immediate vicinity of
the village you can find shops and services. In the building “La
Gran Becca A” (distant about 300 meters) there is the typical
"Pizzeria-Restaurant “La Marmotta”, where is
possible to buy take-away dishes. The pizza is served only in
the evening (phone 0166/568470).
The nearest winter ski plants
are in Chamois (5 minutes by car), Torgnon (10 minutes by car),
Valtournenche (10 minutes by car) and Cervinia (15 minutes by
car).
In the “DueElle” sport item shop, placed in front
of the AGIP petrol station, is possible to hire ski and ski-boots.
Besides the winter ski from Plateau Rosà to Cervinia, is
also possible to practice the summer ski on the glaciers of Plateau
Rosà, above Cervinia, from 3500 m to 4050 m above the sea
level.
Inside the the same shop you can also buy in advance the daily
tickets (ski-pass) for the ski-lift of Cervinia. It’s also
possible to hire mountain-bikes. A riding-ground for adults and
children is operative in summer, between firs and larches, called
“health route”. In winter this becomes a nordic ski
course.
Near the village is operating
a new sport center with:
- new open swimming pool (in summer);
- gymnasium for rock climbing suitable for children and adults;
- riding-school for children and adults (in summer);
- new adventure-park with various naturalistic courses for children
and adults.
It’s also possible to
try the “parapendio” and “rafting”. In
the sport area are available a football field, tennis courts and
bowls courts.
At the Touring Promotion Agency (A.I.A.T.) of Antey St. Andrè
you can get the free entrance tickets for the “Casinò
de la Vallè) in St. Vincent.
In the village
is operating a naturalistic and excursionistic guide. He is a
Guide of the Gran Paradiso National Park (Mr. Sergio Giovannoni
